M.D. 24/7’s clients are corporations, unions, small to medium size employers and benefit programs.
M.D. 24/7 is a nationwide network of medical physicians who review medical information collected from registered nurses. The physicians provide medical advice in ten minute sessions and issue non-narcotic prescriptions (where allowed by law and when sufficient medical history is available) to expedite, hassle-free treatment.
M.D. 24/7 is staffed with registered nurses (RNs) who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to collect medical history information; HIPPA (privacy statement) compliance forms; medical release forms from primary care physicians (PCPs); and maintain, update and forward patient electronic medical records (EMRs) as appropriate to physicians for consultations with patients on non-emergency issues. M.D. 24/7’s RNs are the initial contact for patients who utilize the physician consultation service. The RNs screen each call for non-emergency status, retrieve the patient’s EMR, complete a triage assessment using the Schmitt/Thompson nationally recognized protocols and forward this information (question, EMR, triage assessment) to the network physicians.
The physician is responsible for reviewing the patient question, EMR and triage assessment. When ready, the physician will be connected with the patient, via the RN, to give advice on the current medical question. Consultations are limited to a maximum of ten minutes and the physicians are allowed a two hour window to call the RN back. Physician notes will be stored in the Member’s EMR. No narcotics or controlled substance prescriptions are allowed. Non-narcotic prescriptions may be prescribed where allowed by state law and only if the physician feels there is sufficient medical information.
M.D. 24/7 also offers “E-mail a Doctor”. This program is useful for a patient who calls the consultation line with a question that is more involved than the typical inquiry, or who requires a second opinion, etc. For such an event, an MD 24/7 RN will take the patient’s medical history and question, then forward them to a network physician for advice. The turnaround for an e-mail is 24 hours. The e-mail program is strictly for advice; no prescriptions or treatments are offered to the patient.
